A New Life and First Breath

Holdenridge30x40 copyIt was early in the morning, and I had my first cup of coffee. This morning was different, it was going to be the birth of Ella Mae, so I had to be awake and alert which wasn’t hard to do. The excitement was hard to contain.

When I arrived at the hospital and went into the room, I immediately started capturing Leanna and Jame’s birth story. It was amazing, and one of the best experiences I have ever had the privilege of having. They started her pitocin about 9:30a.m, and she was 3cm dilated. About 10:30a.m. her doctor came in to check her and up her pitocin. That’s when the hard contractions started to get stronger.

About 12:30p.m. they came in and gave her the epidural, which did help with the contractions. It was showtime about 1:30p.m, she was 10cm dilated at that point. Doctor came in and told her to start pushing.

When Leanna was ready to start pushing, I squeezed between the wall and the hospital bed to get the most precious images of her little girl taking her first breath into this world.

Birth photography is so much more intimate than any other photography out there. It’s not only rewarding to witness and capture the first life of someone taking their first breath, but to capture the hard work and love that the parents show is remarkable. There’s a lot that goes into Birth Photography, and the hard work pays off tremendously! Congratulations to Leanna and James on their arrival of their second daughter Ella Mae!
